Does Looking At Pinterest Recipes Make You Hungry? Me Too!

This morning my co-worker asked me, “Have you ever gotten home and been standing there in front of the refrigerator and nothing jumps out at you so you just give up and go to bed?”

Ha! How about the last 3 nights? Oh, and don’t all jump to “she sent her kids to bed hungry!” conclusions. They got eggs. Hey, breakfast for dinner is indeed a thing.

When I am in a real jam, I head to Pinterest.

Ahhhh. Pinterest. I hear the sighs.

I’m not necessarily “obsessed” with Pinterest, but I do find it useful when I’m looking for ideas for meals or snacks. I get in a rut, making the same thing over and over, and I get bored. And yes, I’ve got a bazillion cookbooks. But a lot of those cookbooks don’t have pictures, and I need to know what my meal is supposed to look like. It’s a thing I have.

I know, the pictures of meals on Pinterest are worthy of a 5 star restaurant and it makes it seem a bit impossible that anyone can get close to replicating that.

There is “Pinterest FAIL” for a reason, people.

But I’ve tried a number of recipes that have now become family favorites and have made it into the coveted, worn, blue folder that houses our “favorite recipes”. I mean, I am assuming recipes would aspire to be placed in a family favorites folder, right?

So I thought I would share some of my favorite recipes…that I have actually MADE and have been DELICIOUS.

Favorite Pinterest Meals

1. Tyler Florence’s Pancetta Carbonara: Sooo delicious. I craved this when I was pregnant, and the recipe doesn’t include raw eggs, so it was safe to eat. I made it for a couple friends that were both pregnant, too. Big. Hit.

Based on the fact this is my most repined recipe, I guessing that either food porn lovers think the picture is great, or they’ve actually whipped up this deliciousness.

2. Shrimp with avocado and mango salsa.

I was never one for putting fruit in recipes. To me fruit should be eaten as part of a fruit platter or fruit salad. I didn’t like combining that food group with any others. But, I wanted my mom to stop calling me a “picky eater”, so I gave it a try. And you know what? I am not obsessed with putting mango salsa on things.

3. Little Quinoa Patties.

I know, y’all are thinking, “you mean that stuff the guy calls a “loofah” in that tailgate commercial??”. Yes, that stuff. I am not a fan of all things loofah, but this Quinoa recipe is TASTY. Give it a try. I promise, you will like Quinoa after this recipe. Okay, maybe I wouldn’t go that far, but you will like how quinoa tastes in THIS recipe.

4. To make up for the loofah recipe, I bring you…beef. Can’t go wrong with beef, right?

Recipe Best: beef with broccoli

5. Or bacon. REALLY can’t go wrong with bacon. First had these for “App Night” when on vacation in OBX. Made them for the Super Bowl and they were a bit hit. And by a big hit, I mean that I ate them all.
